Sach pass in Pangi valley is one from the biggest mountain passes which is known for his dangerous as well as beautiful roads on mountains. It is situated at an altitude of 14500 feet which connects Chamba Valley with Pangi Valley in Himachal Pradesh. It is about 708 km from Delhi, 175 KMs from Dalhousie and 127 KMs from Chamba.
The routes to Sach Pass followed by us are: From Delhi – Pathankot – Dalhousie – Chamba – Tissa – Bairagarh – Sach Pass – Killar – Kishtwar – Patnitop – Udhampur – Jammu – to Delhi Well, we group of four riders decided to left from Delhi on Friday and planned comeback to Delhi by Tuesday, so we had 5 days for this amazing ride, and we know that there is time crunch because we have to start from Friday evening. So, we planned to ride at night from Delhi and achieved followed below itinerary.
Day 1: We started around 4.30 PM from my house, get together by 6:00 PM at Delhi. We start ride as one of our friend is waiting into murthal. We joined at murthal and begin our ride. We had taken rest and dinner at Zhilmil, Karnal with stuffed paranthas and then continued towards Pathankot. We ride full night and continues to day 2.
Day 2: We keep on riding towards our destination. It is near about 8:00 in the morning, we crossed Pathankot and stop at roadside dhaba where we took some rest and have some stuffed parathas with curd for breakfast. That guy made fresh parathas for us as there is no one in there at that time in the morning. After taking one hour rest we continue our ride towards Chamba. We are on our to Bairagarh from Chamba. We decided to spend our night at Bairagarh. It is nearby 4:00 pm and we take a halt at other roadside dhaba and take rest for one hour. We reached Tissa at 8:00 pm and spend the night there in one of the hotel on the way. Sach pass from there is near about 60 km. So, Delhi to Tissa came out to be 650 km with an approx ride time of 26 hrs including rest and meal time.
Day 3: Good morning for day 3, we guys wake up and the climate was very pleasant, good for the day starts with rainfall going on, we have to start the journey as we need to touch Killar till night after crossing sach pass. We left Tissa at 8:00 am from our hotel and continue our ride towards sach pass. In rain, we first went to refuel our bikes and then we continue towards sach pass by Bairagarh. After one hour drive, we stop for breakfast as we find the first hotel after approximately one hour, we all are very hungry at the point of time. We ordered our breakfast, by the time our breakfast will be ready, we took some shoots over there. This was a raining day and we are passing through beautiful villages of Pangi Valley, with loads of waterfalls and water crossings. After Bairagarh there is police post on the way, where they get your details registered. The condition of roads after that police post is not good. basically, there are no roads. You have to drive on rocks only, which is very difficult. The toads are very bad even then my Ladakh trip roads. We continue to ride towards sach pass. There are many waterfalls, a lot of snow at a specific point before sach pass. Now, we reached sach pass and there very cold air is blowing and very fast. There was a small room next to sach pass mandir. We are not able to stand in cold weather so we decided to go in that room for some time. There are some shoots which we got on the way to saach pass.
After enjoying our time at sach pass we ride again to killar. As we decided to reach and stay overnight at killar. Killar relates to a tag “most dangerous road in the world”. We reach killar. There are many hotels and house rooms for rent. We had an amazing dinner with a few drinks and then go to sleep. Tomorrow is our most hectic day, we planned to leave killar and crossed kishtwar which is a district of Jammu.
Day 4: As our day started, we start with having some breakfast get ready on our bikes and left from killar in our another rainy day. Today we will pass through kishtwar which is also famous for beautiful roads with sightseeing and waterfalls on the way. On the way, there is also the dangerous patch from which we go through. This patch is made by doing cuttings in stone of that hill. This patch looks like that it is threatening you when you crossed you have felt like you are crossing through a cave, the only difference is that this cave is open to our left side with a deep valley. So, we ride well from all these roads and mountains. Below are some shots of the route which we capture. As I told you we have time congestion so we decided to ride back to Delhi at the night. We keep on riding and have some stop for a shoot or feeding food to ourselves. We keep on riding and we reach Udhampur nearby 2300 hrs. There we find a lot of congestion as some flyover construction is going on. So, there is a lot of traffic which includes heavy vehicles. We decided to take rest and we find a tent of some yatris on the roadside, where we take dinner and rest for the night.
Day 5: Our last day of the journey, we wake up at 0600 am and after freshening up we again start our ride. We take many stoppages from Udhampur to Delhi. We arrived Delhi near about 2000 pm. We take stoppage of one hour for food rest to our body and many stoppage time to time. At the end we say that we enjoyed this trip a lot and the trip ends like this.
